Early Career Road Map

This Road Map will introduce you to all the major events at IDWeek 2025 and will provide a guide on interesting events and sessions you must not miss as a trainee or early career professional, highlighted by members of the ID Training Program Directors Community of Practice and Fellows Community of Practice. After reviewing this Road Map, you will be able to search the entire IDWeek program for other sessions related to your specific interests. We highly encourage you to attend any sessions of interest! NextGen ID Lounge: A home for medical students, residents and fellows

Located in the Building B Registration Hall of the Georgia World Congress Center (adjacent to IDWeek registration and badge pick-up), the NextGen ID Lounge is a space dedicated to medical students, residents and fellows. Come meet and network with peers over coffee or grab some friends to enjoy some downtime playing a game.

In addition to providing an opportunity to grow your network each day, the NextGen ID Lounge features MedTalks, a unique opportunity for you to interact with experts in the field of ID. These sessions are useful for early career individuals to learn more about career paths and development in ID. 

The NextGen ID Lounge is also the home to the IDBugCrawl an IDWeek program designed for medical students and residents. To learn more about the IDBugCrawl click here.

The lounge will be open during IDWeek and will be limited to medical students, residents, and fellows.

MedTalk: Career Foundations: Applications, Contracts, and Clinical Pathways
The Career Foundations Panel is designed for fellows, residents, and students exploring clinical career paths (in ID and beyond). Our panelists join from careers across clinical practice, from academic centers to private practice. In the first half, they will practice tips on job applications, including sharing key terms and things they wish they’d known when applying to jobs for the first time. In the second half, they will answer your questions about their pathways. We will provide a summary of key tips for those interested so you have something to reference in the future!

Our second Career Foundations Panel will focus on careers beyond the clinic! ID training opens doors to many careers that you may not have as much exposure to in your training. Learn how our panelists navigated their career choices and what fellows, residents, and students can do to explore and prepare for these alternative paths in ID.
