José Luís Boene is a Mozambican medical doctor and aspiring global health researcher with a keen interest in infectious diseases, clinical microbiology, and maternal health. He earned his medical degree from Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo, Mozambique, and has been actively involved in clinical research and evidence synthesis projects since graduation.
His recent work includes leading a meta-analysis titled “Comparative Effectiveness of Dihydroartemisinin-Piperaquine and Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine in Preventing Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes”, which was accepted for oral presentation at IDWeek. His research focuses on interventions that can improve health outcomes in underserved populations, with particular attention to malaria in pregnancy, antimicrobial resistance, and vaccine effectiveness in low-resource settings.
José is also a lecturer at a health sciences training institute in Maputo, where he mentors students in general medicine. He is currently preparing for postgraduate studies in microbiology and public health, aiming to contribute to improved infectious disease surveillance and policy in sub-Saharan Africa.
