Maryrose Laguio-Vila, MD is an Infectious Diseases Physician and the Chair of Medicine at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, New York. She has been the RGH Antimicrobial Stewardship Program Medical Director since joining RGH in 2012, and this program has been designated by the Infectious Diseases Society of America as an Antimicrobial Stewardship Center of Excellence since 2019. She served as an IDSA representative in the IDSA/American Thoracic Society Community-Acquired Pneumonia international working group, and has worked with the CDC Emerging Infections Network evaluating hospital-wide implementation strategies to reduce the use of high-risk antimicrobials for Clostridium difficile. Passionate about collaboration, she founded and Chairs the Rochester Regional Health System-wide Antimicrobial Stewardship Collaborative, involving all 8 hospitals and ambulatory stewardship programs, extending from Western NY in Batavia, across the Finger Lakes, and up to the St. Lawrence Hospitals in Northern New York State. As the first female Chair of Medicine of RGH, she champions infection prevention and antibiotic and diagnostic stewardship principles, promoting patient safety.
