Jay C. Butler, MD, FAAP, MACP, FIDSA is former Commissioner and Chief Medical Officer of the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services and is former Deputy Director for Infectious Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Medical School, has completed post-doctoral clinical trainings at Vanderbilt and Emory Universities. He has authored or co-authored over 100 scientific papers and medical textbook chapters on infectious diseases, vaccines, emergency preparedness, and substance misuse. He is an affiliate professor of medicine at the University of Alaska Anchorage and Emory University. From 2010 to 2014, Dr. Butler was Senior Director for Community Health Services and infectious diseases clinical consultant at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium in Anchorage. Earlier work at CDC includes serving as Director of the Arctic Investigations Program, 1998-2005. He was the 2017 President of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials.
