Akira Kawashima, M.D. is an attending physician at the AIDS Clinical Center (ACC), National Center for Global Health and Medicine (NCGM), Japan Institute for Health Security (JIHS), Japan. He is also a Ph.D. student at Kumamoto University and an affiliated scientist with the Department of Parasitology, National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), JIHS.
Dr. Kawashima is a clinician and early-career investigator whose primary research interest is Entamoeba histolyticainfection and other intestinal protozoan diseases. Since 2023, under the mentorship of Prof. Koji Watanabe (Tokai University) and Dr. Hiroyuki Gatanaga (NCGM), he has led multiple clinical, epidemiological, and translational research projects focusing on the diagnosis and control of amebiasis in Japan and Taiwan.
