Dolores Acuña, PhD student at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Degree: Biochemist. I am currently doing an internship in the Infectious Diseases Department at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with Dr. Asun Mejias.
In 2021, I began my professional career as a PhD student at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, primarily focusing on the molecular epidemiology of respiratory viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 and RSV. I utilize next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques, including Illumina and Oxford Nanopore technologies, to sequence complete viral genomes. Currently, I am leading a retrospective study of infants under one year of age with severe and mild RSV infections, aiming to investigate these diseases through viral genomics, the infant nasopharyngeal microbiome and immunity.
I have had the opportunity to present my work at national and international conferences and have contributed to the publication of scientific articles related to RSV and SARS-CoV-2. I am eager to continue developing my expertise in these technologies and to contribute my knowledge and skills to a research team.
