Karim Gebran, MD is a Venezuelan physician and internal medicine resident at Metropolitan Hospital Center in New York City. He was born and raised in Ciudad Guayana and earned his medical degree cum laude from the Universidad Central de Venezuela. During medical school, he developed a strong interest in infectious diseases and cardiovascular medicine, which was further shaped by clinical training in underserved communities across Venezuela.
Following graduation, Dr. Gebran relocated to New York City to complete his residency in Internal Medicine. He has since led and contributed to research initiatives focused on Chagas disease in Venezuela and the United States, including an external validation of an AI-powered ECG technology for detection of left ventricular systolic dysfunction in patients with Chagas Disease and a 20-year retrospective study of Chagas cardiomyopathy in his home country. Currently he is invested in the implementation of a system-wide Chagas screening program across NYC Health + Hospitals.
In parallel, he co-founded Medicina Destilada, a Spanish-language educational platform that offers free, high-yield internal medicine content to students and residents across Latin America.
He is currently pursuing fellowship training in Infectious Diseases, with special interest in cardiovascular infections, diagnostic innovation, and implementation science in underserved communities.
