Maria Santana-Garces, MPH is an epidemiologist with Henry Ford Health based in Detroit, Michigan. She has a dual role with the department of Public Health Sciences and the Division of Infectious Disease. She received her bachelor of arts degree in Biological Aspects of Public Health from Elon University in North Carolina. She then went on to complete her Master's of Public Health degree at the University of Michigan School of Public Health where her concentration was Global Health Epidemiology. As an epidemiologist for Henry Ford Health, she works with senior bioscientific staff and various infectious disease clinicians on multiple research projects that cover a wide breadth of research areas. Notable examples include the IVY and US Flu VE network studies which are respiratory disease surveillance projects in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control, Vanderbilt University and Duke University. She has also worked in global health projects such as the ECHO-IMPROVE project which aims to improve anti-microbial stewardship programs for hospitals aross Latin America.
