Naokatsu Ando, MD, PhD, FACP, is an infectious diseases specialist and staff physician at the AIDS Clinical Center, Japan Institute for Health Security (Tokyo, Japan). After earning his MD from Tokai University, he completed postgraduate training in internal medicine, infectious diseases, and HIV medicine, and obtained a PhD from Kumamoto University. He also completed the ICRT-Japan and GCSRT programmes at Harvard Medical School. Dr Ando’s research centres on antimicrobial resistance in HIV care and sexually transmitted infections—particularly drug-resistant Mycoplasma genitalium and syphilis. He has received several national research prizes, the IDWeek International Investigator Travel Award, and currently serves on the Board of the International Anal Neoplasia Society.
