Dr. Oni Blackstock believes that centering health equity benefits everyone's health.
As a primary care and HIV physician, trained researcher, and public health innovator, Dr. Blackstock brings passion and expertise to transforming public health and healthcare systems. She is the founder and Executive Director of Health Justice, a social impact consulting firm with a mission to lead transformative projects in healthcare and public health and empower health-affiliated organizations to embed equity and anti-racism into their policies and practices.
As Assistant Commissioner at the New York City (NYC) Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, leading the Bureau of HIV, Dr. Blackstock spearheaded initiatives to combat the HIV epidemic and to expand access to HIV prevention and treatment. Under her leadership, NYC reached a record low number of new HIV diagnoses in New York City. She also oversaw the creation of the Health Department’s first Bureau-based Racial Equity and Social Justice Initiative Program.
Previously, she served as an assistant professor at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she developed, implemented, and tested novel community and tech-based interventions to improve engagement in HIV prevention and treatment among communities disproportionately affected by HIV. She is a graduate of Harvard College, Harvard Medical School, and Yale School of Medicine.
Fueled by a commitment to justice, Dr. Blackstock champions access to the resources and opportunities marginalized communities need to thrive, creating a future where health equity is not just an ideal but a reality.
