Commander Larson is a native of Houston, Texas. He was commissioned into the United States Navy in 2009 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania through the Health Professions Scholarship Program. He holds degrees in Biology, Psychology through Grove City College, and a Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine through Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a Residency in Internal Medicine at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and Fellowship in Infectious Disease at Naval Medical Center San Diego, and remains board certifed in both fields.
Commander Larson was assigned his first staff tour at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital from 2018-2021. There, he assumed leadership of the Infectious Disease Department, Infection Prevention and Control Committee, and Antimicrobial Stewardship Program. He was a central figure in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and served as an advisor to the White House COVID-19 Task Force, senior Pentagon leadership, Secret Service, Army National Guard, and Operation Warp Speed tasks force as well as globally impactful in publication of multiple early peer-reviewed scientific papers, including vaccine development.
From 2021 to 2023 he served as the Infectious Disease physician of 1st Medical Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, Camp Pendleton, California. In 2023 he began his tour at EMF-Bravo and serves as a Staff physician at Naval Medical Readiness and Training Center – San Diego, Assistant Program Director of the Infectious Disease Fellowship, Co-Chair for the Faculty Development Committee, and Site Chair for the Infectious Disease Clinical Research Program.
His academic achievements include promotion to Associate Professor of Medicine through the Uniformed Services University and recognition as a Master Clinician through Naval Medical Center San Diego. He has over 30 peer-reviewed publications in diverse topics, which have accumulated over 1000 citations.
