Jonathan Parr, MD, MPH, is an associate professor of medicine in the division of infectious diseases at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a founding member of the Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Ecology Lab (IDEEL). His laboratory conducts applied, translational research on the molecular epidemiology of infectious diseases, with a focus on malaria but including projects on syphilis, viral hepatitis, and other infectious diseases. His group works closely with international partners in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, and other sites to use cutting-edge sequencing approaches in order to study pathogen evolution and inform policy decisions. He is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and was named a National Academy of Medicine Emerging Leader in Health and Medicine Scholar.
