Nebraska Biocontainment Unit Laboratory
Vicki Herrera is the Training & Education Coordinator for the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit Laboratory and a Research Coordinator at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where she also serves as the Alternate Responsible Official for the Select Agent Program. She holds a Master of Science in Medical Microbiology and Immunology from Creighton University. Her expertise includes biosafety, clinical laboratory safety, molecular biology, and microbiology, and her current research focuses on infectious disease bioaerosols and their implications for laboratory risk assessment. She helped establish and supervise the UNMC Biocontainment Unit Laboratory and has been recognized with two UNMC Silver U awards for her work with Ebola patients and the biocontainment unit laboratory. Vicki has played a key role in national response efforts for Ebola, COVID-19, and Mpox and currently chairs the NETEC Laboratory Workgroup, advancing training and safety practices for high-consequence pathogen laboratories.
