C. Mary Healy, MD, FIDSA, is Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Infectious Diseases at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) and attending physician at Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston, Texas. She received her MD from University College Cork, Ireland completed residency and fellowship training in Ireland and gained membership of the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health (UK). In 2000, she moved to BCM and completed fellowships in pediatric infectious diseases (2003) and vaccinology and vaccine-preventable diseases (2005). Her research interests focus on preventing infections in mothers and infants through maternal immunization with a particular interest in pertussis, and on improving vaccination rates in all age groups—from infants to adults. She has been PI on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funded contracts to critically evaluate cocooning and maternal immunization strategies. In collaboration the University of Texas School of Public Health she is also investigating strategies to improve HPV vaccine uptake in adolescents and adults. She is an active investigator on Vaccine and Treatment Evaluation Unit at BCM. She serves as co-director of the Clinical Operations Unit of the Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Consortium.
Dr Healy is a member of the Committee on Infectious Diseases of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the IDWeek Program Committee. She lectures on the AAP Pediatric Review and Educational Program (PREP)-ID Board Review Course. She serves as consultant (past-chair) of Texas Medical Association (TMA) Committee of Infectious Diseases, and on TMA Council of Science and Health. She has also been a member of working groups of the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices.
