Andrea Cona, MD, PhD, is a Medical Doctor and Researcher of Department of Infectious Diseases at ISMETT, a Solid Organ Transplant center, partner of the University of Pittsburgh, located in Palermo, Italy.
Dr. Cona is an active member of European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), The transplantation Society (TTS) and Transplant Infectious Diseases (TID). He is part of the Evidence Review Group for ESCMID guidelines development and member of two ESCMID study groups: ESCMID Study Group for Infections in Compromised Hosts (ESGICH) and ESCMID Study Group for Antimicrobial Stewardship (ESGAP).
He attended the Postgraduate School of Infectious Disease at the University of MIlan. During his university studies, he work as Research Assistant in Tubingen, Germany. He completed a PhD course focused on Clinical Research at the University of Milan.
At ISMETT, he works as ID consultant for liver, kidney, pancreas, heart, and lung transplant programs for children and adults. Over the last years, Dr. Cona research activity has been focused on prevention and management of infections in solid-organ transplant recipients, especially post-transplant HHV-8 infections, and multi-drug-resistant bacterial infections.
