Alysse G. Wurcel, MD, MS is a nationally recognized clinician investigator with over 20 years of expertise in infectious diseases and experience working with people with HIV, people who are incarcerated, and people who use drugs. She joined the faculty of Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine in October 2024 as an Associate Professor and clinician investigator in the Section of General Internal Medicine. Additionally, she provides patient care at Boston Medical Center’s Section of Infectious Diseases. Dr. Wurcel received her MD from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 2008 and completed residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. After completing a fellowship in Infectious Diseases (ID) at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City and Tufts Medical Center in Boston. During ID fellowship she earned a master’s degree in clinical and transitional science from Tufts University Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Wurcel’s research portfolio is characterized by a commitment to the development of systems-based strategies to improve healthcare, and engagement of a broad array of stakeholders. She is Multiple Principal Investigator on two R-level grants: a research project to improve equitable access to penicillin allergy de-labeling from AHRQ and an exploratory/development grant to improve systems of infectious diseases care in Suffolk County jails through NIDA. She has published over 115 peer-reviewed manuscripts advancing the science of health services research and carceral health care.
