Marc E. Gottlieb, MD graduated from medial school Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, 1976. Post graduate education was at Albany Medical College for General Surgery, a seven year program including two clinical research years in the trauma studies center. Following that, his Plastic Surgery residency was at University of Southern California, completed in 1985. He is board certified in General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, and Hand Surgery. His practice was in Phoenix, Arizona until partial retirement in 2023. His practice was exclusively in the domain of reconstructive plastic surgery. His experiences in residency and early attending years gave him robust experience and interest in the repair and reconstructive aspects of trauma, surgical oncology, infectious and inflammatory disorders, and deficits of the trunk and extremities. However, his passionate interest was in wounds, sparked by experiences as a medical student and intern, especially chronic, pathological, non-healing wounds. That subject became a focus of his practice almost from the beginning, and the last 25 years of his practice was devoted wholly to that subject, including the management of comprehensive wound clinics. Within that broad subject, his own specialized expertise consolidated on managing : CAP wounds (chronic and pathological) and related disorders where wound healing physiology is intrinsically impaired (typically due to autoimmune, rheumatological, hematological, and coagulopathic disorders); management and cure of fistulas (from or between any of the body's ducts and organs); support for general, orthopedic, neuro, and other surgeons to arrest wound pathergy then reconstruct surgical complications; comprehensive care of spine injured and other patients with pressure ulcers; surgical cure and reconstruction of malignant soft tissue pathologies, including neoplastic cancers and refractory infections such as Mycobacterium abscessus and similar organisms.
