Dr. Gaur is a board-certified pediatrician and pediatric infectious diseases physician with a masters in epidemiology who serves as the Director of the Division of HIV and Translational Medicine at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (St. Jude) in Memphis, TN. A pediatrician from India, Dr. Gaur joined St. Jude in 1999 and has since served as a clinician and clinical researcher with a focus on HIV prevention and treatment. His translational research includes drug and vaccine development for children and youth. Besides his primary appointment at St. Jude as a member in the Department of Infectious Diseases, Dr. Gaur serves as an adjunct Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Preventive Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Dr. Gaur has led over 65 clinical research protocols as a Principal Investigator (PI) including investigator initiated First-in-human and multiple cooperative group NIH and industry funded studies. This includes co-leading the registrational trial that supported the approval of the first, all-injectable, antiretroviral HIV treatment regimen of long acting cabotegravir + rilpivirine in adolescents. While majority of the studies he has led have focused on the continuum of HIV prevention and care of children and youth at risk of or living with HIV, he has also led other infectious diseases focused early-stage drug and vaccine development including a novel antimalarial St. Jude discovery (SJ733) and SARS-CoV-2 vaccines. Having served as the Medical Director of Occupational Health at St. Jude for 14 years, Dr. Gaur’s work during the COVID-19 pandemic was recognized with receiving the Amos Jacobs Award which is the highest honor for a St. Jude employee.
