Karina Ohri is a third-year medical student at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. She received her degree in Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Cornell University in 2023. Her research interests include pediatrics, infectious disease prevention, and public health education.
She has contributed to several public health initiatives, including projects addressing HPV vaccine hesitancy across New York State and efforts to improve community health literacy. At ID Week, she will be presenting findings from a recent study at Upstate that examines masking behaviors and hesitancy among healthcare personnel in the post-pandemic period. This work highlights opportunities to reframe masking as a cornerstone of infection control.
As a future pediatrician, she is passionate about integrating public health principles into clinical care to promote prevention and equity in child health outcomes. She is especially committed to improving health literacy, addressing social determinants of health, and promoting preventive care strategies at both the individual and community levels.
