Paul Spearman, MD is Professor of Infectious Diseases and Vice Chair for Clinical/Translational Research in the Department of Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Spearman has previously served as Division Chief for Infectious Diseases at Emory University and at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. He is Past President of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society. Dr. Spearman has served on numerous NIH study sections, the Scientific Advisory Council for NCI, and FDA committees. He is a member of the leadership group of the Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Consortium (IDCRC) and leads vaccine trials through the Vaccine and Treatment Evaluation Unit (VTEU) site based at Cincinnati Children’s. Dr. Spearman’s laboratory studies fundamental aspects of HIV biology and pathogenesis. Current work in the laboratory focuses on HIV envelope protein trafficking, HIV interactions with macrophages, and stem cell and organoid models for HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders. He has published more than 140 peer-reviewed scientific publications and contributed to textbooks in the fields of Infectious Diseases, Pediatrics, and Microbiology. Dr. Spearman directs the Cincinnati Children’s CHRCDA/K12 program for pediatric physician-scientist training and leads a T32-supported postdoctoral training program in Vaccinology.
