Associate Professor of Medicine
Emory University and Grady Health System
Atlanta, GA, United States
I am an Associate Professor of Medicine at Emory University in the Division of Infectious Diseases. I am an ID/HIV physician who cares for patients at the Grady Ponce de Leon Center, a large Ryan White-funded HIV clinic and status-neutral sexual health center in Atlanta, Georgia, where I serve as Medical Co-Director of our long-acting HIV treatment program. The goal of my clinical and implementation science-based academic career is to serve as a collaborative leader in novel scientific programming and advocacy initiatives that advance the care of persons with HIV and women. Areas of particular emphasis include developing innovative multimorbidity screening and prevention strategies for persons with HIV across the lifespan and leveraging long-acting treatment modalities as a tool to advance the U.S. DHHS Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) initiative. My work as PI is supported by a CDC U01 that uses mixed methods and human-centered design to explore HIV treatment preferences and implementation challenges among Black women and providers in the US South and an NIA K23 that employs a geroscience-guided framework to assess microvascular health via non-invasive retinal imaging as a potential multimorbidity biomarker in HIV. I also serve as a Co-Investigator of several other NIH-funded HIV observational cohort studies: MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study; Study of Treatment And Reproductive Outcomes (STAR); and the Emory Specialized Center of Research Excellence (SCORE) in Sex Differences. I have been selected to serve on national scientific working groups including the HIVMA EHE Community of Practice on Hot Topics and the ACTG Women’s Health Collaborative Science Group, and have been invited to contribute to policy recommendations and consensus statements on equitable use and scale-up of long-acting HIV treatment and prevention as well as to the NIH-CDC-HIVMA/IDSA Clinical Guidelines on Opportunistic Infections in HIV.
