Dr. Walsh received a BS in Chemistry from Manhattan College (1970), an MD degree from SUNY-Downstate Medical Center (1974), medical Residency and Infectious Disease fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center (1982) where he is Professor of Medicine. Research is focused on many aspects of RSV, including function and antigenic nature of the F and G proteins and their vaccine potential. Clinical research has centred on describing the epidemiology, clinical characteristics, and pathogenesis of RSV in infants and older adults. Clinical trial work involved phase 1/2/3 clinical trials of mRNASARS-Cov-2, prefusion F Vaccines for RSV in adults.
