Robert Sean Tyler, MD, MBA, is a Transplant Infectious Diseases Fellow at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he is completing his final year of fellowship. His clinical and academic interests focus on infections in solid organ transplant recipients, including CMV resistance, donor-derived infections, and antimicrobial stewardship in immunocompromised hosts.
Dr. Tyler is a committed medical educator with a passion for building sustainable, high-impact learning experiences. He helped design and implement in-house infectious disease modules for medical students and internal medicine residents, translating complex topics into practical, case-based learning. In collaboration with his mentor, Dr. Courtney Harris, he also co-developed a novel, self-paced online curriculum for transplant ID fellows, designed to improve clinical readiness in organ donor evaluation and address critical gaps in subspecialty training. The curriculum is currently being piloted at programs across the country.
Holding an MBA alongside his medical training, Dr. Tyler brings a systems-level perspective to medical education, quality improvement, and interdisciplinary care. His scholarly and educational efforts reflect a broader commitment to improving access to infectious diseases education, advancing clinical preparedness, and strengthening the ID training pipeline.
Dr. Tyler values collaboration and innovation in advancing transplant infectious diseases. He welcomes opportunities to engage with peers who are equally committed to improving patient outcomes through education, research, and clinical care.
