Luis Alejandro Vásquez de la Garza, MD Candidate at Universidad de Monterrey, Mexico, serves as an undergraduate medical intern at Christus Muguerza Sistemas de Salud, S.A. de C.V., Mexico, with a special interest in ophthalmology and clinical research. Luis completed EMT Training at the University of Monterrey (2022-2023) and serves as a paramedic with the university’s EMT team when needed. In October 2023, he earned the Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) 9th Edition Provider certification from the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT).
Passionate about advancing medical knowledge, he has engaged in epidemiological research at Christus Muguerza Alta Especialidad, focusing on infectious diseases. He will present his work on endemic diarrheal pathogens amid COVID-19 and water shortages in Northeast Mexico as a presenting author at IDWeek 2025. Luis has also contributed to a meta-analysis on Acinetobacter baumannii carbapenemase resistance and a systematic review on domestic violence. Dedicated to lifelong learning, he participates in community efforts like DIF Monterrey medical brigades and TECHO México’s educational initiatives.
