Stessi Marie Geganzo is one of the researchers housed at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, National Institutes of Health, University of the Philippines Diliman. Initially working on projects involving nucleic acid amplification-based point-of-care diagnostics for tuberculosis and neglected tropical diseases such as paragonimiasis, Stessi's focus on public health, molecular biology, and microbiology led to the field of infectious disease research, particularly those significantly affecting the Philippine health setting. Infections caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae (KP) are notorious for rapid mortality rates both in the community and hospital environments. She, together with a group of infectious disease specialists and medical laboratory scientists from the Philippine General Hospital, is set to understand the genomic background of local KP isolates and translate these findings for improved patient management.
