Nadia Sam-Agudu, MD, CTropMed is a clinician-scientist; Professor of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Director of the Global Pediatrics Program at the University of Minnesota (UMN) Medical School. Dr. Sam-Agudu also serves as the UMN Medical School's Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion focused on medical students.
She completed her medical degree at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and then completed her residency in pediatrics and fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at the University of Minnesota Medical School. She has particular clinical expertise in HIV, TB, and other communicable and vaccine-preventable infectious diseases, and also has a keen interest in adolescent sexual and reproductive health and the prevention and treatment of sexually-transmited infections in young people.
Dr. Sam-Agudu has additional affiliations in Ghana (University of Cape Coast) and Nigeria (Institute of Human Virology Nigeria) and a public health and research portfolio largely focused on West and Central Africa. Her research interests are in the application of implementation science methods in the prevention of infectious diseases of public health importance affecting infants, children, adolescents, and pregnant women, including HIV and mpox.
Dr. Sam-Agudu leads the Central and West Africa Implementation Science Alliance (CAWISA), and supports policymaking as a member of the World Health Organization's committees on pediatric and adolescent HIV, and on global clinical guidelines for mpox management.
