Jerrica L. Werner, MD is currently an Infectious Disease Fellow and Clinical Researcher at the University of Washington. She completed her medical school and Internal Medicine training at University of Kansas Medical Center, where she was heavily involved with the advocacy efforts of the American College of Physicians (ACP) Kansas Chapter, advocating for Internal Medicine patients and physicians at the state and national level. As an Infectious Disease Fellow, she is now an IDSA Member Advocacy Program (MAP) Advocate, broadening her advocacy to address issues related to infectious diseases, including antimicrobial resistance, strengthening the ID workforce, and the critical importance of research to population health and safety. She has participated in numerous "Day on the Hill" events with both ACP and IDSA. Jerrica views advocacy as a critical component of patient-centered care and process improvement, driven by the belief that every patient's needs should shape how healthcare systems evolve.
Outside of advocacy, Jerrica has a strong interest in global and public health, and is currently pursuing her MPH in Epidemiology at University of Washington. She has as a strong interest in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), and has worked on WASH-related programs and research in Bolivia, Guatemala, and Ecuador. Her current research focuses on antimicrobial resistance markers in a series of enteric stool samples of children as they age from 6 to 12 months.
