He is chief of the Hematologic Emergency Unit at the Department of Hematology of the AOU Policlinico Umberto 1 of Rome, Italy.
Corrado Girmenia has dedicated career in the field of infectious complications in patients with hematological diseases and submitted to stem cell transplant and cell therapy. Within this discipline, his areas of research interest and clinical application include fungal infections, bacterial infections, viral infections and supportive care. He is also involved in clinical programs of emergency in hematology, diagnosis of hematological diseases, palliative care and outpatient management.
He is a member of the GITMO (Gruppo Italiano Trapianto Midollo Osseo).
He participated to randomized, controlled clinical studies and was Principal Investigator of multicenter observational studies conducted in GCP in patients with hematologic malignancies and submitted to stem cell transplant. He is consultant or advisory board member for several pharmaceutical companies.
He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications and many book chapters and is reviewer for numerous medical journals.
