Dr. Janet Englund is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine, where she serves as a Pediatric Infectious Disease specialist at Seattle Children's Hospital and a member of the Seattle Children's Center for Clinical and Translational Research. Dr. Englund is also a clinical associate at Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center, where she is active in transplant-related protocols in the prevention and treatment of disease in the immunocompromised host. She serves on national and international committees for vaccines, and is a past member of the FDA Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee, and the maternal immunization safety group at World Health Organization. She is past president of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society and past board member of the Infectious Disease Society of America. She received the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society's 2015 Distinguished Physician Award, the 2017 IDWeek Caroline Breese Hall Award, and the 2025 Chanock Award from the International RSV Society. Dr. Englund's research group studies respiratory viral epidemiology as well as new and current respiratory viral vaccines in diverse populations, including infants, children and pregnant women. She also evaluates viral diagnostics, viral transmission, antiviral resistance and novel antiviral therapy. She directs the Seattle site of the CDC-sponsored New Vaccine Surveillance Network (NVSN) , where she studies influenza and rotavirus vaccine effectiveness and RSV and influenza epidemiology.
