Practice Achievements
Dr. Couch is a clinician, researcher, and educator responsible for developing clinical and educational initiatives aimed at optimizing medication therapy. She is active in lecturing, research, and provision of pharmaceutical care to hospitalized patients and patients enrolled in outpatient infusion therapy. She is a licensed pharmacist in Maryland and Delaware.
Dr. Couch has more than 100 publications on medication therapy; is a contributing editor to multiple drug handbooks; and is an invited lecturer at local, national, and international symposia including IDWeek, ICID and ECCMID. She is a peer reviewer for several journals and a referee for abstracts for ASHP and IDSA. She has supervised over 40 pharmacy residents and over 200 students.
Dr. Couch is a voting member of the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute for the anaerobe sub-committee on susceptibility testing. She is a member of the SIDP Antimicrobial Stewardship Certificate committee and a regular referee of project submissions to this committee.
Dr. Couch served three terms as President of the Delaware Society of Health-System Pharmacists. She is also a member of the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists and Infectious Diseases Society of America.
Recognition
Dr. Couch is a three-time recipient of the ASHP Presidential Leadership award and a three-time recipient of the Bristol Meyers Squibb Pharmacist Leadership award. She was recognized with The Joint Commission Codman Award for her work on sepsis and as the DSHP Pharmacist of the Year. Dr. Couch has also been recognized three times with the Clinical Practice Leadership award and was a DPS Bowl of Hygeia recipient. She is a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and a Fellow of the American Society for Health-Systems Pharmacists. She is also an HIV Prevention Certified Provider (VIVPCP) with additional credentials in Pharmacy-Based (HIVPCPRX) prevention. Additionally she holds a HIV PrEP Navigation Certification (HIVPNC).
Service
Dr. Couch is also very involved in her community and serves as the Chapter Coordinator for Project Linus Maryland MidShore, supports her local youth and high school wrestling teams, supports the Maryland State Wrestling Association as the East Region representative, and participates regularly at Wreaths Across America at the US Naval Academy and other veterans’ cemeteries. She has also joined the National Archives in translating cursive writing documents as a Citizen Archivist.
