Dr. Fernando Bula, a physician in the Infectious Disease program at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital and the medical director of antimicrobial stewardship. He has been part of the medical staff since 2021.
Dr. Bula previously served as a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was also a pediatrics clerkship director and associate professor of pediatrics at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine.
Originally from Colombia, Dr. Bula earned his medical degree from Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla. He completed his pediatric residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine’s Elmhurst Hospital Center in New York, followed by fellowship training in pediatric infectious diseases at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Jacksonville.
Dr. Bula's interests include antimicrobial and diagnostic stewardship, infection prevention, and patient safety and quality improvement. He also has a passion for teaching trainees on different levels and disciplines; and he is a strong advocate of vaccines.
Later this year, Dr. Bula will be relocating to Minneapolis to join Masonic Children’s Hospital at the University of Minnesota, where he will continue his important work in infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship.
