Dr. Angela Gomez-Simmonds is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at UC Davis where she conducts research pertaining to the clinical and molecular epidemiology of hospital-associated, multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria. Her research focuses on using whole genome sequencing to characterize the the population structure and resistance mechanisms of these organisms to inform and optimize surveillance, infection control, and treatment strategies. She has a particular interest in characterizing the plasmids and other mobile genetic elements harboring broad-spectrum beta-lactam resistance genes and how they contribute to antibiotic resistance phenotypes and transmission.
