I am a physician specializing in Infectious and Tropical Disease Medicine. I work in the Department of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, where I currently head the Department, at the Regional Hospital of Loreto in Iquitos, Peru.
I am also a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Human Medicine of the National University of the Peruvian Amazon and a researcher.
I have been working to implement an Infectious and Tropical Diseases Research Laboratory at the Regional Hospital of Loreto. This laboratory's function is to diagnose infectious diseases and conduct research. We have molecular and sequencing platforms.
My research focuses on tropical diseases in the Peruvian Amazon basin, with the goal of describing the epidemiological characteristics of the most important diseases in our region, in terms of prevalence, mortality, and overall burden on the formal health sector. I am interested in vector-borne diseases. The focus of my research extends to diseases that have not been recognized in the Peruvian Amazon basin in the past, such as rickettsiosis and Chagas disease. Documenting and describing these emerging diseases is important because the health system often fails to give them adequate attention, and they are considered neglected diseases.
