Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:
  • explain the benefit of debridement, and be able to handle commonly used instruments for debridement in wound care;
  • identify different modalities for off loading foot wounds, and apply this to practice;
  • describe the rationale for use of different wound dressings on different types of wounds, and apply this to practice;
  • identify different types of compression wraps and stockings which may benefit a particular patient the most, and apply this to practice;
  • describe the benefits of negative pressure wound therapy, and identify patients who may benefit from this modality;
  • describe the caloric, protein, and mineral needs of a patient with a large decubitus wound, and apply this to practice.
