Dustin Daniel Flannery, DO, MSCE, is an attending neonatologist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and CHOP Newborn Care at Pennsylvania Hospital, an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, and a core faculty member in CHOP Clinical Futures. He received a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and a Bachelor of Science with Honors from Virginia Tech. After completing a residency and chief residency in Pediatrics at Nemours A.I. duPont Hospital for Children/Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, he completed a fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at CHOP. He graduated from the CHOP Pediatric Hospital Epidemiology and Outcomes Research Training program and the Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology program at the University of Pennsylvania.
In addition to caring for critically ill newborns and their families, Dr. Flannery is a clinical epidemiologist. He uses a variety of data sources to study perinatal infection epidemiology, with a focus on early-onset sepsis, and neonatal pharmacoepidemiology, with an emphasis on antimicrobial stewardship. Dr. Flannery is particularly interested in neonatal intensive care unit antimicrobial prescription practices and how the global threat of antimicrobial resistance may impede our ability to treat infections in this vulnerable population. He has received research funding from CHOP, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (T32), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (K08), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 
Dr. Flannery actively participates in undergraduate and graduate medical education. He is the Director of Pediatric Trainee Education at Pennsylvania Hospital and is the PSOM clerkship director for the well nursery and intensive care nursery elective rotations. He also serves as the site director at Pennsylvania Hospital for the CHOP Neonatology and Pediatric Hospital Medicine fellowship programs.
