Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics
Emory University School of Medicine
Dr. Campbell, MD, MPH, has over 20 years of experience in working in the field of clinical research and epidemiology related to respiratory viruses. She completed her medical training at Vanderbilt University. She trained in pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases, and completed an MPH in epidemiology, at the University of Washington/Seattle Children’s/Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. Dr. Campbell worked at CDC as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer, followed by several years in Seattle studying respiratory viruses in immunocompromised patients before rejoining CDC to work on studies of influenza antiviral and vaccine effectiveness, pandemic preparedness, and clinical guidance related to treatment and prevention of seasonal and novel influenza viruses. In 2020, she became actively involved in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and has since broadened her work from influenza to focus on the epidemiology, prevention, treatment, and outcomes of severe illness and complications of respiratory virus infections. She has led the team that conducts national surveillance for multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), multicenter investigations related to prevention of COVID-19 pediatric hospitalizations and MIS-C, and recent work focused on prevention of severe respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in infants and young children at high risk of severe disease. Dr. Campbell is an Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics at Emory School of Medicine and an Affiliate Investigator in the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. She cares for patients and has a Professional Staff appointment at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta where she attends on the Pediatric Infectious Diseases service and works as a PRN pediatric hospitalist.
