Clinical Professor
National Taiwan University Hospital
Dr. Yu-Chung Chuang, MD, PhD, is a Clinical Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Internal Medicine at National Taiwan University Hospital. His research focuses on optimizing treatment strategies for vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) bloodstream infections (BSI), with particular emphasis on daptomycin therapy.
Dr. Chuang has conducted extensive clinical research on the use of daptomycin in VRE BSI, including comparative studies with linezolid to assess their impact on bacterial clearance and patient outcomes. He has also evaluated daptomycin dosing strategies and pharmacodynamic parameters, such as the AUC to MIC ratio, and has examined the reliability of different MIC testing methods including broth microdilution.
In addition to monotherapy, his work explores combination approaches using daptomycin with agents such as beta-lactams or fosfomycin. These studies include both clinical cohort analyses and experimental models assessing microbiological response and treatment efficacy.
Dr. Chuang is actively involved in patient care, clinical teaching, and mentoring of trainees in infectious diseases. His work continues to focus on the management of drug-resistant gram-positive infections, with an interest in integrating pharmacokinetics and clinical microbiology into therapeutic decision-making.
